Who is a woman who’s made an impact on your career? #IWD26

My Great Grandma Annie Rebecca, who was born in Stoke Newington in the 1870s, who left home after her mother and brother died of TB, as she was not treated well by her new step-mother.

Undeterred, Annie entered service at the age of 15, became a governess, and worked in the East End, caring for single mums and residents with TB.

Once I started my family history journey 25 years ago, I found all of this out and this photo I think depicts what she was known for – a strong exterior with a vast vulnerability and sensitivity within.

Although I never met her, I know she guides me in my nursing work and in my desire to reduce stigma, raise awareness, empower others, and keep that inner strength throughout life.
